Clear The Air was established 10 Dec, 1997 as a Society under the Societies Ordinance Press Launch of CLEAR THE AIR on 17 December, 1997;

1998

Apr

Primary Schools Poster Competition with 4800 entrants in April 1998 sponsored by the Private Sector Committee on the Environment (PSCE). Winning posters were displayed in MTR stations;

Nov

Clean Air March, November 1, 1998, with 500 people - received international coverage.

Nov

A Signature Petition of 30,000 signatures made the front page of the SCMP when it was presented to Mr Tung Chee Hwa on 25 November 1998;

Nov

Letters sent to all 60 LegCo members. Meetings then held with James Tien (Liberal Party), Law Chi Kwong (Democratic Party) and The Frontier. Spoke at LegCo Panel on Environmental Affairs.

1999

Mar

A Forum on Clean Bus Technology, 13 March, 1999, to share ideas and technology among bus companies, government and members of the public;

May

Wear A Mask Day promotional event where masks were placed on the lions at the HongKong Bank in Central. The photos got international news coverage.

Wear A Mask day, 27 May 1999, in which thousands of masks were distributed to the public, a public rally held in Chater Garden and a petition given to Mr Tung Chee-hwa.

Large-scale letter-writing campaign mainly by school children in support of raising the fines for smoky vehicles, June, 1999.
